
Drug Description
Generic Rimadyl (Carprofen) is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic medicine. It belongs to the drug category of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The role
of this drug is to restrain the construction of particular elements in the body (prostaglandins) that causes pain and inflammation in the body. Other
associated drugs of NSAID's category are aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. Carprofen is a prescribed drug available over prescription from a
veterinarian.
Indication
Generic Rimadyl (Carprofen) is used to treat pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis in dogs. This medication is also applied to control postoperative
pain caused by soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries in dogs. This Generic Rimadyl drug is offered in the form of chewable tablets, caplets and injection.
Dosage and Administration
A daily dose of 2 mg/lb (4.4 mg/kg) has been recommended for oral administration to dogs. The total daily dose should not be more than 2 mg/lb of body weight and can be taken as a single dose or in two divided dose as 1 mg/lb (2.2 mg/kg).
If you are giving this drug to control postoperative pain, give around 2 hours prior to the procedure.
The dose can be increased by half-caplet/tablet according to the instruction of the veterinarian.
