About accommodation in ladakh, it must also be separated from the rest of Leh Ladakh.

Leh in summer becomes a giant hotel that houses 3 times more tourists than there are inhabitants. And despite these hotels and guesthouses these, it is not always easy to find a room unexpectedly, mostly between July 14 and August 20. The comfort is average, the hotel is a place where one goes to sleep only.
Since 2007 and 2008, new luxury hotels have been built or are under construction on the outskirts of the city. Residents take a dim eye bathrooms with bath which has each room, so they have more and more difficult to get water for themselves, whether it is drinking water or irrigation water

Outside of Leh:
guesthouses in the villages disappear to be replaced with homestays. Only change the name and price. Initiated by local associations, these homestays rent a mattress on the floor for the night to Rs 300 per person (2008). It's a gold mine in which (almost) everyone jumped.

Originally, these associations had two goals:

1 . To discover the daily life of Ladakhi retaining the tourists a few days in these homestays: home = house, and stay = stay. The price represented a ... full board ... per person. Some follow this rule, some not. Trekkers are just passing through. That is why this award is excessive and does not correspond to the services provided. Pay Rs 600 for two people far exceeds what we can pay to Leh for the same service.
Accredited by these associations, homestays have proliferated and there are almost more than homestays outside cities.
2 . enable people to get money in return for which they undertake not to kill snow leopards that stalk their herds in winter. This leopard is endangered. The money earned goes to pay goats or sheep eaten by the leopard.

With the expansion of road network, the monasteries are visited in the day, but are less sought for the night. Some have retained the dormitory for visitors (Likir, Ridzong).
